At approximately 05:39am, Wednesday 05 March 2008, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a report of a serious collision on the R511 at the crossing of the R114 outside Diepsloot, Laezonia.

A minibus taxi had collided into the drivers side of a security bakkie, two of the occupants were entrapped inside the bakkie and fire fighters had to use hydraulic equipment (”jaws of life”) to free them from the wreck. Paramedics attended to a total of five patients at the scene; two occupants of the bakkie were in a critical condition and were placed onto emergency life support.

The Netcare 911 helicopter came to the scene twice to airlift the two critically injured patients. The patients were transported to the Netcare Unitas and Netcare Sunninghill hospitals as well as a provincial hospital.

This incident was attended to by Netcare 911, provincial fire and ambulance services from the City of Johannesburg and Tshwane EMS as well as the Metro Police.
