Biker critical after Hartebeespoort breakfast run smash At approximately 11:21am, Sunday 09 March 2008, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a report of a serious collision on the R512 not far from the Lanseria airport.

Paramedics arrived to find that a motorbike had collided with a bakkie. Bystanders alleged the the bikers were returning from a breakfast in Hartebeespoort and that the bakkie did a “U-turn” resulting in the collision. The occupants of the bakkie were not injured and paramedics attended to two victims from the motorbike: the female passenger was treated for a pelvis injury and was in a stable condition, she was fully immobilised as a precaution The male driver was in a critical condition and was placed onto emergency life support, he had sustained a head injury as well as possible fractures to both his wrists and his left knee.He was airlifted by the Netcare 911 helicopter and attended to by the flight doctor whilst en route to the hospital. Both patients were taken to the Johannesburg hospital.

The R512 was temporarily closed. This incident was attended to by Netcare 911, provincial fire and ambulance services and the Metro Police.

2 Killed and 36 injured as bus overturns on N1 outside Pretoria2 Killed and 36 injured as bus overturns on N1 At approximately 3:19am, Sunday 09 Mach 2008, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of a serious collision on the N1 south between Hammanskraal and Pretoria on the Pretoria side of the Murryfield toll plaza.

Paramedics arrived to find that a bus had collided with an armco barrier before overturning. Fire fighters had to use the “jaws of life” to free some of the victims from the bus. Paramedics attended to a total of 38 victims at the scene: 1 sustained critical injuries, 35 others were treated for a variety of mostly minor injuries and all of these 35 were in a stable condition. Unfortunately 2 victims died of the injuries at the scene. Ambulances from various services transported the injured to the Garankuwa, Jubilee and Netcare Montana hospitals.

The N1 south towards Pretoria was closed and traffic was diverted by authorities onto the N1 north to bypass the scene.

This incident was attended to by paramedics from the private and provincial ambulances services, fire department, traffic police and the SAPS.

At the time of this statement all of the patients have been removed from the scene but the bus has not yet been cleared.
