At approximately 13h58 on Saturday 09 August 2008, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of a serious car crash on Lotus street opposite the junction of Carnation street in Gallo Manor, Sandton.

Eye witnesses told paramedics that the luxury car had failed to stop at the stop street on Carnation street before crossing over Lotus street and crashing through the perimeter wall of a house right next door to their Wendywood high school and came to rest after crashing into a tree in the garden. Paramedics arrived to find teachers and first aid marshals from the school attending to the victims who they recognised as school pupils. Paramedics were told that there had been seven teenagers between the ages of 17 and 18 in the car at the time of the incident and all seven were assessed for injuries.

Fortunately all of the victims were in a stable condition. Two sustained minor injuries and refused further medical attention while five others were treated for injuries ranging from mild to moderate. These five were transported by ambulances to the Alexandra clinic, Morningside and Netcare Sunninghill hospitals.

This incident was attended to by paramedics from the private and provincial ambulance services, fire department and the Metro Police.

Paramedics initially had to deal with the large number of people and separate the injured from the uninjured.

Paramedics attended to a total of eleven patients at the scene and they were transported to the Helen Joseph, Johannesburg and Netcare Milpark hospitals. Both drivers sustained severe injuries and they were both classified as critically injured. Three other victims sustained serious injuries and six were treated for minor injuries. Approximately sixty other commuters refused further medical attention and remained at the scene. Officials contacted the bus company and arranged for alternative transport for these uninjured passengers.

This incident was attended to by Netcare 911, provincial fire and ambulance service and the Metro Police.
