Never Forget
The British Foreign Office revealed on Friday night that four Britons have died in a minibus crash while on a safari adventure in South Africa. The victims were on a safari holiday when the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and overturned on Wednesday. They were understood to be relations of the Hollywood actress Helena Bonham Carter, the Guardian reported. Three of the dead were named by sources as 14-year-old Eton schoolboy Marcus Egerton-Warburton, his grandmother Brenda Bonham Carter, 74 and step-grandfather Francis Kirkwood, 75.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are still seeking clarification about the accident from the South African authorities.” Marcus’s mother, Fiona Bonham Carter, and his brother Piers were also injured in the crash. Friends of the dead schoolboy have set up an online memorial on the social network site Facebook. One stated: “Can’t put into words how much I will miss you. You are an amazing person you will never be forgotten. R.I.P marci xxx.” The victims are believed to be part of the extended family that also includes Helen Bonham Carter said the Guardian.
Bonham Carter has starred in a number of films including A Room with a View, Fight Club, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Wings of the Dove and Sweeney Todd.
The Arrive Alive Website also received an email on Friday evening with the following request: “Dear Sirs,
I have knowledge that a friend of mine, Mr. B.Carter, was involved in a car crash. Seems like his spouse, father in law and mother were killed in the accident. Where can I find some details about the accident? Because I don’t know in which hospital my survived friend is in.”
We contacted the head of Accident Investigation at the RTMC and were able to establish that the accident happened on Wednesday near Thabazimbi. A call to the private hospital in Thabazimbi revealed that the 2 injured accident victims were transferred to the Netcare Sunninghill hospital in Johannesburg and this information was forwarded to our concerned from the UK.
The Arrive Alive Website would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
