Bus driver dies on Moloto road
The driver of a Putco bus died and 20 passengers were injured when the vehicle overturned on the Moloto road in Mpumalanga on Saturday night. Cullinan police spokesperson Johannes Jaftha said the accident occurred at 8.30pm between Wagensdrift and Jakkelsdans and it was apparently caused by a reckless overtaking.
He said the bus was travelling from Pretoria to Moloto when the driver, a young man whose names and age were not disclosed, overtook another car. “He suddenly realised that there was another oncoming vehicle ahead of him. He then tried to avoid that car by swerving to the side of the road but lost control of the bus and it overturned,” he said.
Jaftha said the driver was certified dead at the scene. He said other passengers were rushed to KwaMhlanga hospital. “A case of culpable homicide has been opened for investigation.” – Sapa
