A five-year-old boy was killed in a hit and run accident while crossing a street in Phutanang, Galeshewe on Saturday afternoon, Northern Cape police said on Sunday.

“Eric Joseph Esterhuizen was crossing the street at 16:00 when a Polo sedan that was overtaking another vehicle hit him. He died on the scene,” Captain Tommy Modise said.

He said the driver of the Polo failed to stop after hitting the boy. “Police are on the lookout for a silver Polo with Free State registration numbers and anyone with information can report the driver on 082-469-1813,” he said.
