I have come across an interesting media story about a driver who collided with a Boise Police patrol car, admitting that he was texting just before the collision occurred. The patrol car was parked with it’s emergency lights on and the officer was not inside the vehicle when it was hit. The driver who hit the patrol car is hospitalized.

Officers on scene said the damage to the patrol car is considerable, and it’s extremely fortunate neither an officer nor suspect was in the vehicle at the time of the collision as injuries would have potentially been severe. Traffic officers have said that the collision is a reminder not to drive distracted. Officers advise motorists not to text while driving, as texting can distract a driver for an extended time.

The most important of safe driving assets is to be a sober and alert driver. An alert driver avoids accidents by anticipating what might occur down the road and allowing for the time it takes to identify potential hazards and take the proper course of action to avoid a collision. This is why tailgating and driver distractions so often lead to accidents.
