Brilliant Speed Control in Canada

24 04 2009

The Arrive Alive website received an email from a South African road user titled :”How’s this for speed control?”

I don’t know about you, but this would slow me down! People slow down and try to “straddle” the hole, then breathe a sign of relief they completely cleared it!

This is actually a marketing stunt designed for manufacturers of vehicle suspensions. Scroll down and look at all three pictures.

Pretty clever, huh??? Especially if moved around each day. Isn’t art wonderful?

The Concern in South Africa would be that the road users might not slow down and drive into the VERY REAL threat of actual pot holes!

How hard are we getting about road safety?

I simply could not resist the above title. Most would expect a serious blog post about the lack of enforcement and the need for stricter penalties for traffic offences. This is however not the thought that crossed my mind –but rather something that brought a naughty smile to my face having read a safe driving related story from Norway!

It is reported that a Norwegian man is facing a heavy fine and a driving ban after police caught him having sex with his girlfriend while speeding on a motorway. The unnamed couple, a 28-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, were caught in the act late on Easter Sunday by traffic police on the highway 40km west of Oslo.

Police filmed the incident and clocked the couple’s silver Mazda 323 at 133km/h in a 100 zone when they realised they were doing more than just breaking the speed limit. Traffic authorities reported that the car was veering from side to side because the woman was sitting on the man’s lap while he was driving and whilst “doing the act”.

“”He couldn’t see much – her back was in the way. Why they did it on a highway with such a high risk we don’t know.”

“We’ve taken away his driving licence because of the danger that he caused,” traffic authorities said. The driver could be fined “several thousand Norwegian crowns” and banned from driving.

I would be neglecting my duty if I do not close with some road safety advice. We would like to urge road users to be serious about road safety and “Avoid driver distractions”. Road Safety is a life-and-death matter – not something to screw around with!
