Taxi Accident in Azaila township Leaves 18 Injured

[PIETERMARITZBURG – 17 JANUARY 2012 AT 07H15]
Four people have sustained serious injuries and fourteen other people have sustained minor to moderate injuries after the taxi they were travelling in over turned on a narrow road inside Azaila township this morning.
ER24, EMRS and the local Fire Department arrived on the scene and found the taxi on its side and lying up an embankment. The 18 commuters of which 9 were school children, where all found seated near to the over turned vehicle.
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that four of the eighteen patients had suspected neck and back injuries. They were placed on a specialised board to help protect their spines from any further damage that have been done in the collision.
The remaining fourteen suffered minor cuts and bruises. All patients were treated by ER24 and EMRS and taken to Edendale Hospital for further medical intervention.
It is believed that the driver lost control due to mechanical problems from the taxi.
