February 24, 2012

The paramedics were on their way back from a call towards their base when they came across a man that had been knocked down on Nelson Mandela Drive opposite the Mediclinic Bloemfontein Hospital.

The young man had been knocked down by delivery vehicle after he was believed to have been crossing the road while he was vending in the street. He immediately needed Advanced Life Support treatment as he had suffered a suspected critical head injury. He has also suffered minor abrasions and scrapes and was found lying in the right hand lane of the road. Paramedics stabilised him on scene and loaded him into the waiting ambulance.

The patient was then further stabilised at Mediclinic Bloemfontein and then take to Pelonimi Hospital for further emergency medical care.

It is not clear as to the cause of the incident and it will need to be investigated.

In accordance with the consumer protection act, and common sense…these street vendors are a hazard at every intersection or road where they sell merchandise.
This will keep happening as long as they are allowed by our pathetic government to do business at traffic lights.
