11 people die in another Limpopo accident

Eleven people have been killed and 17 injured in an accident involving four vehicles on the N1 outside Polokwane. Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says the accident happened when a bus attempted to overtake a truck.

According to Ngoepe, the accident involved a bus, a truck, a taxi and a sedan. The bus, which was heading towards Polokwane, collided with a taxi and blocked the road, leading to the sedan and the truck to pile on the taxi. Those injured have been taken to various hospitals around Polokwane.

Police and traffic officials are still busy clearing the road and motorists have been advised to use alternative routes.

Meanwhile, five other people have been killed and three seriously injured in an accident involving two trucks and two cars at Midway near Estcourt in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

The police’s Zinhle Mngomezulu says the driver of one of the trucks lost control over his vehicle after the brakes failed and it collided with the three other vehicles. Mngomezulu says the injured have been taken to the Escourt hospital.

In yesterday’s horrific accident in Grobelarsdaal, it has been established that most victims were from Limpopo’s Jane Furse and Phokwane areas in the Sekhukhune district. Twelve people were killed and one seriously injured when a taxi collided head-on with a truck just outside the town.
