A man was killed when he was struck by a light motor vehicle while crossing the N1 near the Rand Show Road junction in Diepkloof near Soweto this morning.
The cause of the accident and the series of events leading up to it remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Common cause information indicates that the man had been crossing the southbound carriageway when he ran into the path of a car. The vehicle struck him and the force of impact threw him forward before it passed over his body.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man’s bloodied frame lying in the road. He had sustained critical injures and had sadly died prior to their arrival.
Traffic on the southbound carriageway was adversely affected while emergency service personnel cleared the scene. The driver of the car was uninjured in the crash.
