One man has tragically died after his vehicle plunged over a bridge on the N2 North near Umhlanga this afternoon. Reports from the scene indicate that the man lost control, veered off the road and plunged about ten meters to a road below.
Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the driver of the vehicle had been ejected from the wreckage he was found several meters away with life threatening injuries. Paramedics stabilized him on scene and had to use rope rescue equipment to hoist him back up to the road level.
After the patient was placed on a ventilator and skillfully immobilized they transported him to the Nkosi Albert Luthuli hospital for the care that he required. Tragically he passed away soon after his arrival at hospital.
