On arrival, paramedics were shocked to find a sedan trapped underneath a bus. Fearing the worst, paramedics were surprised to find the driver of the sedan alive in a critical condition. Emergency personnel immediately set to work securing the scene and prepared the vehicle and injured man to be extricated with the jaws of life. eThekwini Metro Fire & Rescue members carefully worked to cut the vehicle away to allow paramedics to stabilise the injured man before placing him on a spine board and fully immobilising him. He was transported to hospital in a critical condition.
A number of passengers on the Metro bus sustained injuries from the collision ranging from minor to moderate and were taken to hospital for further medical care.
From on scene reports, it is not fully known what caused the car and bus to collide and will be investigated by the SAPS and local law enforcement agencies however, it is believed the wet weather did contribute to the collision.
