Rescue Care Paramedics, members from Saps Search and Rescue as well as members from Rescue Tech were called to a serious collision on the M19 East bound before Mt Batten Drive offramp just before 11pm last night.
First to arrive Rescue Care paramedics found that a single vehicle travelling west bound up the M19 had somehow lost control crossed over the centre medium and then rolled over the Armco barrier and rolled down approximately 25metres coming to rest in a river. First to arrive paramedics Leon Fourie and Michael Madonsela could barely see the vehicle however they heard cries for help. They immediately called for the assistance from all rescue services and made their way carefully down to the injured driver. Once they reached the 35 year old male they were surprised to find that he had only suffered moderate injuries. Once rescuers from Durban Fire, Rescue Tech and Saps Search and Rescue had arrived they set up a sophisticated rope system which the utilized to pull the injured patient to the awaiting Rescue Care ambulance. The rescue took two hours. He was then transported to a nearby hospital for further care that he required.
It is unclear what caused the single vehicle to overturn however the necessary authorities are investigating the matter further.
