Pedestrian killed in 4-vehicle pile-up

A female pedestrian in her late twenties was killed and several others injured in a four-vehicle collision on Vermeulen Street in Putfontein, Benoni this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived in the misty area where the deceased’s body lay on the road surrounded by the carnage and the injured patients.

ER24 and other emergency service personnel commenced with treatment of the thirteen patients who were occupants of the two taxis and two light motor vehicles collectively.

These patients were treated for their minor to moderate injuries and transported to various hospitals in the area, including Sunshine Hospital, for further medical care.

The exact circumstances that led to the collision are unclear and investigations are underway.
