N3 Marianhill accident leaves three injured – child critically so

IMG-20141202-WA0002One person was critically injured while two others sustained serious injuries in an accident on the N3 west bound lane just after the Marianhill toll plaza. Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.

Netcare 911 and other services arrived at the scene and found a little girl aged around five on the roadway with life threatening injuries after she was ejected from the vehicle. Two others were still in the vehicle, one trapped in the twisted metal of the bakkie. While the Netcare rescue officer and firemen used the Jaws of Life to free the injured paramedics worked fervently to stabilise them.

After the injured were stabilised at the scene paramedics transported them to various hospitals in Durban for the care that they required, the critically injured child was transported to the Nkosi albert Luthuli hospital under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic.
