A collision on the Dukuza road has left a baby dead and nine others injured

KZN Emergency Medical Services paramedics from the Bergville EMS base have responded to the Dukuza road in the Bergville area, where a baby has been killed following a collision.

The collision, between a car and bakkie, occurred earlier this morning. It is alleged that during the collision, one of the vehicles subsequently cashed into a group of people who were standing on the side of the road, waiting for transport. A mother was holding her 25 day-old baby girl when she was struck by one of the vehicles, which had been in the collision. She was seriously injured and sadly the baby girl did not survive the collision.

Paramedics treated another eight patients on scene, who were occupants from the vehicles. The injured patients were transported to Emmaus hospital for continued medical care.

The cause of the collision is being investigated
