Twenty Three children on their way to school have been injured one critically so after the taxi they were in went into the rear of a bus on Mangusuthu Highway near V Section just after 06:30am this morning.
Rescue Care paramedics arrived on scene to find the taxi driver still entrapped in the wreckage whilst the community had taken all the children out of the wreckage and they were found on the side of the roadway. Paramedics counted twenty three children that had been injured excluding the driver. One of the children a 5year old sustained critical injuries and Advanced life Support intervention was needed to stabilize her. Once stabilized by Rescue Care Advanced Life Support paramedic she was transported to a nearby private facility for the further care that she required. The taxi driver was also stabilized on scene before being cut free by the Durban Fire Department before being taken to a nearby hospital. All of the injured were taken to various Durban Hospitals for further care.
At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however the necessary authorities were on scene and will be investigating further.
