Cyclist critical after collision in Pretoria

A collision between a truck, bakkie and cyclist on the Sefako Makgatho Road in Pretoria has left one man in a critical condition and two others with minor injuries this morning.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found the road blocked with heavy traffic.

On closer inspection, paramedics discovered the body of a cyclist lying trapped underneath the bakkie in a critical condition. Rescue services had to use emergency equipment to free the driver from beneath the vehicle before treatment could continue. Once freed, paramedics had to provide the patient with advanced life support to stabilise his vital signs.

The critically injured man was airlifted by the AER24 helicopter to Steve Biko Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The two occupants from the bakkie were found to have sustained minor injuries in the collision. They were treated by paramedics and thereafter transported to a nearby clinic for further observations.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
