A man lost his life and one was injured following an accident on the N12/N3 split in Alberton this morning at around 05h00.
Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.
Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that a heavy goods vehicle had overturned and came to a standstill on its side against a steel pole. The driver cabin of the heavy goods vehicle completely ripped away from the vehicle and rolled down an embankment.
Upon assessment of the occupant, paramedics found that the man had tragically died during the accident as a result of the extensive injuries he had sustained.
A motor vehicle then crashed against the heavy goods vehicle as the back part of the vehicle partially obstructed the roadway. Upon assessment of the male occupant, paramedics found that the man had sustained minor to moderate injuries and did not require hospitalisation.
Traffic will remain obstructed until recovery of the vehicle has been completed.
