Brake failure blamed as taxi crashes into concrete pillar in Parktown

This afternoon EMER-G-MED’s RV6, M07, A01, A02 and A11 responded to reports of a serious taxi crash on St Andrews Road, in Parktown.

It’s believed that the taxi’s brakes failed as it came off the M1 South at the St Andrews off-ramp. The taxi luckily didn’t hit any cars in the intersection, but went through the gate of an office block colliding with a cement pillar.

13 people sustained minor to moderate injuries, with 2 of the passengers requiring Advanced Life Support care.

The patients were treated on-scene before being transported to various nearby hospitals for further care.
