Two men have been killed and nine others injured this morning after a bakkie and taxi collided on the N4 highway in Alkmaar near Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
ER24 paramedics along with other services, arrived on scene to find both wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road.
On inspection, paramedics found two lifeless bodies lying trapped in the front seats of the taxi.
Paramedics assessed both patients and found that both patients had succumbed to their fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patients and they were later declared dead on scene.
Nine other patients were found on scene, two critically injured.
The driver of the bakkie, a 54-year old woman, and a baby boy from the taxi were found critically injured. The driver of the bakkie was found lying trapped in her vehicle.
Rescue services had to use the jaws-of life equipment to free the woman from the vehicle.
Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured patients with advanced life support.
The patients were transported to Mediclinic Nelspruit and Rob Ferreira Hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
