Truck rear-ends bakkie killing two, injuring two

Two men were killed and four others injured yesterday afternoon when a truck rear-ended a bakkie on the R74 near the Oliviershoek Pass in Bergville, KwaZulu Natal.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found that a truck had rear-ended a bakkie, causing it to roll down the embankment and eject the four occupants that were seated on the back.

One of the ejected occupants, a male, was found lying a short distance away from the bakkie.

The patient was assessed and found to have already succumb to his multiple fatal injuries Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene.

Another patient that had been ejected was assessed and found to be in a critical condition. Paramedics stabilized the patient and immediately responded to hospital. Unfortunately, the patient succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Two other patients were found on scene with minor injuries. They were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
