A mother and daughter are fortunate to have escaped unharmed from a fire that ravaged most of their house.

At about 13h45 on Sunday afternoon, Netcare911 paramedics responded to a house on fire on Portland Avenue in Hursthill, Brixton.

Reports from the scene indicate that there were two people inside the house at the time of the incident.

When Netcare911 paramedics arrived on scene, we treated a six year old girl for smoke inhalation.

The mother of the child was fine and did not require medical help.

The child was transported privately to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The City of Johannesburg Fire Department was on scene to help extinguish the fire.

Police are investigating the matter.
