Three people, including two children, have been killed and several others injured this afternoon when a bakkie and taxi collided head-on on the R714, 28km outside of Bethlehem in the Free State.
ER24 paramedics, along with Provincial services, arrived on the scene and found the bakkie on the side of the road while the wrecked taxi was found in the middle of the road.
Three bodies, two of them children, were found lying in the middle of the road. Provincial services had already assessed the patients and found that they had already succumbed to their multiple fatal injuries.
Several other patients were found on scene with injuries ranging from minor to serious. Some of these patients were young children returning from primary school.
ER24 paramedics and provincial services treated the patients and thereafter transported them to various hospitals for further treatment.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
