One man was killed and five others injured this evening after a multiple vehicle collision on the M7 near the Winston Churchill in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal.
ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene and found three wrecked vehicles on the middle of the road. All three vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.
Paramedics inspected the scene and found one man lying trapped inside one light motor vehicle, showing no signs of life.
Assessments showed that the man had already succumbed to his multiple injuries. Sadly, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.
The passenger from the vehicle was assessed and found to have sustained moderate injuries. Three other patients were found lying trapped in a second light vehicle, all in a serious condition. A fifth patient, a man, was found with moderate injuries inside his bakkie.
Rescue services had to use specialised rescue equipment to free the three patients from the vehicle.
Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions.
Once the patients had been treated, they were transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.
It is understood that the driver of the bakkie lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer into oncoming traffic.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
