Two men were killed and four others injured this afternoon, including a 3-year-old child, when a light motor vehicle crashed into a tree off the N4 between Moedville and Swartruggens outside of Rustenburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find a light motor vehicle crashed into a large tree. The bodies of a woman and child were found lying outside the vehicle while three men and a woman were found lying inside the vehicle.
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that two men, both seated in the front of the vehicle, lay trapped and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead.
In the rear of the vehicle, a man and woman lay trapped in a critical condition while the woman and child outside the vehicle lay in a critical condition as well.
Rescue services utilized various rescue tools to free the two trapped from the vehicle, an operation lasting over an hour.
Once freed, paramedics treated the four patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions. Shortly after treatment, the critically injured man was airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan helicopter to a nearby hospital. The remaining three patients were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
