Longdale security guard shot behind security gate

At approximately 03h00 on Monday morning 16 October 2017, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shooting at a factory in Longdale, in the Industria West area.

Reports from the scene allege that a security officer had been shot during an attempted robbery and that his keys had been stolen. The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation.

When paramedics arrived at the scene they could see and speak to the victim but were not able to gain access to him as he was locked inside the premises. He was lying in the driveway area behind high walls and a large security gate, both of which were protected by electric fencing. A Netcare 911 rescue unit was dispatched to the scene and paramedics were able to access the victim after the locks on the gate had been broken. The twenty-eight-year-old man had been shot in the left arm. He was stabilised by paramedics at the scene and transported by a Netcare 911 ambulance to a hospital for further assessment and care.

Security personnel and the SAPS were also at the scene.
