Families enjoyed a bumper weekend at Central Square Menlyn Maine. Both Youth Day and Father’s Day were celebrated with a jam-packed programme of diverse activities. Families were invited to participate in a weekend of fun in honour of fathers and their children. Central Square’s restaurants pulled out all the stops and offered special menus to celebrate the occasion.
Visitors, who came from far and wide, basked in the perfect weather on the piazza. Providing visitors with the opportunity to create memories, the programme featured the glamorous Lindee-Lee Smith who has proved popular during performances at Time Square. Lindee-Lee is renowned for classics from the era of glamour like Frank Sinatra and performed a range of favourites, including her debut single, Happy Song.
Celebrating Menlyn Maine’s cosmopolitan pedigree was the Father’s Day exhibition by the Swedish Embassy, which showcased the innovation and creativity of Swedish dads. Photographer Johan Bävman portrays 25 fathers on parental leave and their views on the role of the modern man and can still be seen until Sunday 24 June 2018. Sweden has one of the most generous systems of parental leave in the world, enabling fathers to stay at home with their kids whenever they need to – the photos are both funny and poignant.
Children gathered in the Dad’s arts-n-crafts workshop to make a handmade gift that will remind them of the special day. Girls and boys of all ages enjoyed the 9-hole putt-putt course which has been extended by popular demand.
Central Square is fast becoming known for its warm-hearted entertainment and community activities that make for unforgettable days. The piazza, with its art and sculpture, relaxing spaces, fountains and buzzing alfresco restaurants, has become the heart of the new CBD of Pretoria.
