Motorist arrested after taxi driver was shot during an alleged road rage incident

Road Rage AccidentMinibus after Road RageAt approximately 19h55 tonight, Thursday 09 August 2007, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a report of a shooting on the corners of Louis Botha and Arkwright avenues in Wynberg, Johannesburg.

Paramedics arrived on scene to find that two vehicles, a white Golf and a minibus taxi, had been involved in a collision. It appears that the taxi crashed into the rear of the Golf, the Golf then crashed into a retainer wall and a pole of a street sign. According to the people on the scene, the male driver got out of the golf and approached the taxi in the intersection and one shot was fired.

Paramedics found that the taxi driver had been shot in his face, he was in a critical condition and was placed onto emergency life support. He was in intubated and manually ventilated by the medical team before being transported by ambulance to the Johannesburg hospital.

The driver of the Golf was arrested by members of the Bramley SAPS, he gave a statement on the scene before being removed by the police. The road was partially closed for over 90 minutes while the SAPS collected evidence and took photographs of the scene. One live round was found on the road as well as one shell casing.

This emergency scene was attended to by Netcare 911, Hatzola ambulance service, ER24, local fire department, Metro police and the SAPS.
